I recently read a blog post about Jasmine, a five and a half year old Rottweiler that underwent stem cell therapy.  The owner brought Jasmine to see her vet when she noticed her dog wasn’t as agile as she once was. Jasmine’s vet diagnosed her with a partial cruciate ligament tear and recommended stem cell therapy for the dog.

Unfortunately, right before Jasmine’s consultation, her ligament tore completely (Anterior Cruciate Rupture).  The surgeon performed the surgery to repair the ACL and also injected the knee with stem cells to assist in the healing (a very common combination).  The knee healed very well and Jasmine went back to her active lifestyle.

A few months later, the other knee experienced the same fate and needed surgery. Both procedures were done again and now Jasmine is enjoying life again.

In many dogs, the pain in the knee on one leg causes the dog to put more pressure on the opposite knee thus causing pain in both knees.

Jasmine’s owner did the right thing by consulting with her vet and doing research before making a decision on the best course of action. Every dog is different and every injury is different and should be treated that way. What is good for one dog may not be good for another. In this case, Jasmine benefited from the two procedures.
